Refugee gives private tuition for an EU citizen

Usually, I am posting here watercolour pictures. But now I have met such an exciting ’success story‘ in my private environment that I have to tell it here.

Nowadays, we often talk about refugees from Africa who need support when learning the German language and other disciplines. In this case it is the other way round, such that a young Italian man is getting help by a refugee!

Here the story: My godson Matthias, an Italian boy of 19, lives in a rural area of Tuscany near a refugee home in which his mother helps on a voluntary basis. Since he is preparing for his secondary school graduation and has to practice especially mathematics, he asked an Ivory Coast refugee named Steve whether he could help him. Steve has passed the secondary school graduation with focus on mathematics in his home country and has been living in Italy for four months. With great enthusiasm Steve now gives Matthias support in math. In return, Matthias helps Steve in improving his Italian.

Today, both are working diligently and concentratedly in preparing Matthias‘ next math test.

I am convinced that there are many more of such stories which have not become public. But it is important to notice also such aspects of the so called ‚refugee crisis‘.

I have told this true story to make people aware that ‚together‘ is possible and gives much more sense than ‚against one another‘.

Flüchtling erteilt EU-Bürger Nachhilfe-Unterricht!

Normalerweise poste ich hier Aquarelle. Aber nun habe ich in meinem privaten Umkreis eine solch begeisternde „Erfolgsgeschichte“ erfahren, dass ich sie unbedingt erzählen möchte. In unserer Zeit ist oft die Rede von Flüchtlingen aus Afrika, die Unterstützung beim Deutsch lernen und in anderen Disziplinen brauchen. Hier ist es so, dass ein junger Italiener Nachhilfe in Mathematik von einem Flüchtling erhält!

Also hier die Story: Mein Patenkind Matthias, ein 19-jähriger Italiener, lebt auf dem Land in der Toskana in der Nähe eines Flüchtlingsheims, in dem sich seine Mutter engagiert. Da er sein Abitur vorbereitet und insbesondere Mathematik üben muss, hat er sich nun an einen Flüchtling von der Elfenbeinküste gewendet. Steve. Dieser hat in seinem Land das Abitur mit Schwerpunkt Mathematik bestanden und hält sich nun seit vier Monaten in Italien auf. Mit großer Begeisterung erteilt Steve nun Matthias Mathematik-Unterricht. Als Gegenleistung hilft der junge Italiener Steve, seine Italienischkenntnisse zu verbessern.

Nun arbeiten beide fleißig und konzentriert an den Aufgaben für Matthias´ nächste Klassenarbeit.

Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass es viel mehr solcher Geschichten gibt, von denen kaum jemand erfährt. Es ist jedoch wichtig auch diese Aspekte der sogenannten „Flüchtlingskrise“ wahrzunehmen. Aus diesem Grunde erzähl ich sie in der Hoffnung, dass uns immer bewusster wird, dass ein Miteinander nicht nur möglich ist, sondern viel mehr Spaß macht, als das Gegeneinander.
