Die neue Romantik

Ich habe den Eindruck, dass es in der Kunst derzeit eine Rückkehr zu romantischen Themen gibt. In meiner Jugend, in den 70er- und 80er‑Jahren, dominierten Computerinstallationen und sogenannte Happenings. Wenn gemalt wurde, musste es abstrakt und gesellschaftskritisch wirken – alles andere galt schnell als „Kitsch“.

Heute begegnet man wieder mehr romantischen Motiven rund um die Natur, und man muss sich nicht mehr dafür schämen, figurativ zu malen. Die Natur wird offenbar als Gegenpol zur digitalen Überreizung verstanden, und Emotionen dürfen wieder sichtbar werden. Malerei darf wieder „schön“ sein. Und ganz ehrlich: Das freut mich sehr.

I sense a renewed turn toward romantic themes in contemporary art. When I grew up in the 70s and 80s, computer installations and so‑called happenings dominated. Painting had to be abstract and socially critical — anything else was dismissed as “kitsch.”

Today, romantic nature motifs are reappearing, and figurative painting no longer needs an apology. Nature has become a counterbalance to digital overstimulation, and emotion is welcome again. Painting is allowed to be “beautiful” once more — and I have to admit, that makes me very happy.
